Born and raised on the West Coast of Canada to a family of avid gardeners and artists, Kristi whiled away many childhood hours in the garden looking for fairies. At the ripe age of 6 years old she decided on her future path as a children's illustrator and fine artist. |
Kristi attended the Emily Carr College of Art, and after a hiatus to raise her children- where she would educate herself in the evenings and work in children's classrooms- she gained the insight and inspiration to work in her chosen field.
The muse for Kristi’s works are her children and the rainforest near her home. Her fine art work pieces are influenced by the Canadian Impressionists, by Emily Carr and Eastern Mandala Artists- and her children’s illustration is reminiscent of Arthur Rackham or Contemporary Charles Van Sandwyk. She is inspired by the works of Dr. Suess.
The trademark amber and sepia pallet evolved after searching for earth friendly mediums: she now prefers bottled ink and quill pen, or water based paints. Whether she is working on fine art work or illustrations, Kristi loves pattern, glowing lines, and warm sentimental effects with a west coast feeling.
Currently Vice President of the Island Illustrators Society and past Editor of FCA Victoria’s 'The Grapevine', Kristi is also an active juried member of the FCA, and a registered member of CARFAC/CARCC, CACGV, ACCESS and CANSCAIP.
Both her time and artwork have been donated to many local, children's and environmental fundraising projects including the Stream of Dreams, several local environmental fundraisers, and the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
Her works can be found at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria or Sooke Harbour House Gallery, her children’s books are available at local bookstores.
To find out where else she will be showing this season, check the events schedule on this site or contact her directly.
